Happy Day

Hello Everyone. It is nice to be back, as I had computer problems last night and could not connect to the Internet to either post or read. After checking all connections several times, I went to bed.

And today, all is well so I guess the Computer and I both needed the rest.

It has been a great day in Australia today with 2 mine workersrescued after 2 weeks, one kilometre down below the surface.

Unfortunately one miner died in the rock fall a fortnight ago, and for five days these two were presumed dead. Since the fifth day they have

had food and water and were finally rescued early this morning.

The funeral of the miner who died was postponed, waiting for these

two, but was to go ahead today whether they were rescued or not.

So after check –ups at hospital, one was able to attend. The other rested.

This goldmine in Tasmania is in a small town there, where the entire

population are very close and very supporting of each other.

A Brewery has even provided

free beer for the occasion.

There are often worse disasters I know, but this was a good story of

bravery of the rescuers, and the young men themselves. I am so glad that they are back with their families.

Another Joke sent to me by Sandy o f Abandoned in Pasadena.

Thanks, Sandy, you are too kind.

Burial Fee

A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem.

While they were there the Wife passed away. The undertaker told the Husband "You can have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land, for $150."

The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home. The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only

$150 ? "

The man replied, "Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead. I just can't take that chance.”

A story about a boss who liked putting up motivational signs

about the work place.

Above the hand basin in the toilets, this bloke put up a big sign reading “THINK”

A couple of days later, the boss was washing his hands, and there on the wall, right above the soap-dispenser, was another sign, same size,

same printing reading “THOAP.”

===================

A reporter writing a feature story about prison life was interviewing one of the prisoners.

“Do you watch much television here?” he asked the crim.

“Only the daytime shows,” the prisoner said.

“At night, we are locked in our cells, and don’t see any television.”

“That’s too bad,” the reporter said, “ But I do think it’s nice that the governor let’s you watch TV during the daytime.”

“What do you mean, nice?” growled the inmate, it’s part of

the punishment.”

A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the

world walks out.

Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.

Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.

Walk beside me and be my friend.

You might regret what you do – but you’ll regret what

you don’t do, SO much more.

That was certainly a great story of heroism and survival.

The Don Marquis quote is funny. Ah computers... can't live with them can't live without them! ~ jb///

So glad to hear of the rescue of those two mine workers Merle. It's always so sad to hear of anyone dying in these kinds of accidents. We had it happen here in the states, as you probably heard about, a few months ago...only a lot more men were lost, and only one survivor. It was a devastating time for those families. Thanks Merle.

I'm glad your back, even computers need breaks from time to time. How awful about the miners and their families, I can't imagine.

Have a good day :-)

I'm glad your computer is behaving itself today and you were able to post. These machines are finicky things sometimes, mine yesterday decided it didn't want to move anymore pictures for me. But a little cleanup is all it needed.

I'm so glad there was a happy ending with those miners...We have many mine rescues here as well. The last rescue we had did not end happily except for one lone miner. It is so good to hear some cheerful news for a change.

Merle, I love the joke about TV being part of the punishment. I was happy to read in our paper this morning about the rescue of 3 men from the mine. We have so many mining horror stories over here; it is nice to read of one that had at least a partly happy ending.

Thanks for your congratulations on my story.

You know, when I heard about those trapped Aussies not only walking out, but thrusting their arms into the air, I just wonder if you folks down under are just a bit tougher than the rest of us.

I liked the "thoap" joke. We get those motivational signs around here some time.

With a whole world full of bad news, the rescue of these two was certainly a spot of good news with which we could refresh ourselves. ec

I loved that you used the term fortnight. I can just imagine hearing your voice as you speak. You are a gentle soul Merle. Thanks for all the uplifting jokes/stories at the end of the blog.

Take care!

Hi Merle,
I was having trouble with Mr blogger last night too. I thought it must have been that he hadn't recovered from my very early post. Peter and I are having this discussion about who posted first and therefore has the bragging rights, he posted at 8.47 EST and I at 8.46 WST, so I still think that I won by one second.

Yesterday was a very moving day, but I guess that most days are like that for someone, some losses and some gains. I sure am glad that little Ezra is here safe and sound.

Merle, thanks for the visit and the nice words! As to your question:

Technically you are no longer sisters-in-law. However, if you still feel close to each other, there is no reason why you cannot continue a relationship as friends.
