From "A Quiet Word"

This one was in the local paper written by George Deeble a Pastor in this area. He calls his column A Quiet Word. Receive & give love through life. Should real men cry? I think I have found the test. My grandcildren have a story book called “Love you forever” which I challenge even the toughest man to read without getting a lump in his throat. it is a simple story that starts with a mother rocking her new-born baby son and singing the following song – “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.” The story progresses through stages of his life and towards the end we see him cradling his frail, dying mother in his arms singing the same sweet song. Throughout his life, he gave and received love. It is a happy story with a happy ending, because on the last page we see him holding his own daughter singing the song. Quite a nice story but we may need the tissues again !!!
A couple of funnies for a change. A carpenter and his apprentice were nailing weather- Boards on a house. The carpenter noticed the apprentice Occasionally threw some nails away after taking them Out of the bag. Intrigued, the carpenter finally asked why he was throwing Nails away. The apprentice replied : “Because some of the nail heads are on the wrong end” The carpenter angrily resonded: “No you stupid lad, don’t Waste them like that. Keep them for the other side of the house!” During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the director What the criterion was for defining whether or not a patient should be institutionalised. “Well” said the director, “We fill up a bathtub. Then we offer a teaspoon, a tea-cup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bath- Tub”. “Oh, I understand” said the visitor, “A normal person Would use the bucket as it is bigger than the spoon or teacup.” “No”, said the director. “A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?”

BE POSITIVEI found this one at the clinic when I had my last mammogram

I found this one at the clinic when I had my last mammogram And think it is a good one to have in a place like that. But it can also apply to life in general. BE POSITIVE Keep your thoughts positive Because your thoughts become Your Words. Keep your words positive because Your words become your actions. Keep your actions positive because They become your habits. Keep your habits positive because They become your values. Keep your values positive because They become your Destiny.

TREES

Another favourite of mine, hope you like it, Will try to take a different line soon. TREES by Joyce Kilmer I think that I will never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain, Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree. Both Peter & I like trees & have taken Some nice photos of them.
SMILE Smiling is infectious, You catch it like the flu, When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too. I passed around the corner And someone saw my grin When he smiled I realized I’d passed it on to him. I thoughy about that smile Then realized it’s worth A single smile, just like mine Could travel round the earth. So, if you feel a smile begin, Don’t leave it undetected Let’s start an epidemic quick And get the world infected!! I do not know the author of this or my 2 previous posts. If I know, I will always give the author the credit. I am almost starting to have fun. Will get around to Answering your comments. Very grateful for your kind & encouraging words. Thank you to all of you, Merle.

Dear Lord

DEAR LORD Dear Lord, So far today I’m doing all right, I’ve not gossiped, lost my temper, Been greedy, grumpy, nasty, self indulgent. I haven’t whinged, cursed or eaten any chocolate. However, I’m going to get out of bed in a few Minutes, And I will need a lot of help after that. Amen. I am still learning, so please bear with me.

CHOICES

CHOICES Every morning I wake up and say to myself you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to Accept their complaining or I can point out the positives of life. I choose the positive side of life. Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every Situation is a choice. You choose how to react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood. You can choose to be in a good mood or a bad mood, The bottom line -- It’s your choice how you live your life. I like the above and also George Jones song “Choices.”

'Twas the night before Christmas.

Good Morning, It’s 8am on Christmas Eve as I, (Peter) write this, thanks to all the folk who visited and sorry about the confusion that reigned supreme during the teething period, which I hope has now finished.

Merle will be missing for a cupla days, she has gone down to her daughter Kathy’s place for Christmas, Kathy and her family live on a dairy farm just out of Pt Campbell which is on “The Great Ocean Road” some of you may have heard of it? one of the most scenic drives anywhere.

Now I had better admit the few bits and pieces that have been posted so far have come from me, but I know my Sister well and they have expressed her feelings truly, if any of you have bookmarked this site please delete your bookmark and save it anew, I hope that will give you a clean version without my name or any details.

On that score it may take a while for Merle to get enough confidence to fill in her profile details, I’ve tried to prepare the ground, but of course she should tell us about herself in her own words.

OK I’ll try to sign this as Peter as I leave and I hope the next post will be the REAL Merle, (it will be barring the need for any more surgery) Merry Christmas from both of us here.

BBQ Protocol

It's the only type of cooking a real man will do.
When a man volunteers to do the BBQ

the following chain of events are put into motion:

          (1) The woman buys the food.

          (2) The woman makes the salad, vegetables, and dessert.

          (3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on
a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and
takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand.

      Here comes the important part:

          (4) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.

      More routine....

          (5) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.

          (6) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning.
He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he deals with
the situation.

      Important again:

          (7) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND
HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.

      More routine.....

          (8) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins,
sauces, and brings them to the table.

          (9) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

      And most important of all:

         (10) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his
cooking efforts.

         (11) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed "her night off." And,
upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing
some women....

My Country

My Favourite Poem.

My Country

The love of field and coppice,

Of green and shaded lanes,

Of ordered woods and gardens

Is running through your veins.

Strong love of grey-blue distance,

Brown streams and soft, dim skies-

I know but cannot share it,

My love is otherwise.

I love a sunburnt country,

A land of sweeping plains,

Of ragged mountain ranges,

Of droughts and flooding rains,

I love her far horizons,

I love her jewel-sea,

Her beauty and her terror-

The wide brown land for me.

The stark white ring-barked forests,

All tragic to the moon,

The sapphire-misted mountains,

The hot gold rush of noon,

Green tangle of the brushes

Where lithe lianas coil

And orchids deck the treetops,

And ferns the warm dark soil.

Core of my heart, my country!

Her pitiless blue sky,

When, sick at heart, around us

We see the cattle die-

But then the grey clouds gather,

And we can bless again

The drumming of an army,

The steady soaking rain.

Core of my heart my country!

Land of the rainbow gold,

For flood and fire and famine

She pays us back threefold.

Over the thirsty paddocks,

Watch, after many days,

The filmy veil of greenness

That thickens as we gaze.

An opal hearted country,

A willful, lavish land-

All those who have not loved her,

You will not understand-

Though Earth holds many splendors,

Wherever I may die,

I know to what brown country

My homing thoughts will fly.
